Schools play a major role in the growth of your family, and are often one of the most important considerations when buying a new home. To help our homeowners in Stoney Creek navigate their way through the new school options available to their growing families, we’ve put together this guide on all things education.

In our experience, nothing compares to an actual visit. Sometimes reports and stats don’t take into account the amazing teachers and staff or overall atmosphere of a school. At the end of the day different kids connect with different environments and what works for one family might be different for the next. Spend the time visiting, meeting and talking to families who already attend the school and use our info as a launching point to find the school that’s right for you. If you’re planning on visiting each school, which we highly recommend, use our handy map to plan your research.

International Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is an educational program offering international education opportunities encouraging students to value lifelong learning and develop intercultural understanding and respect. The program is offered in the HWDSB at Ancaster and Westdale Secondary Schools as a two-year program from grades 11-12. Residents of Lush and Victory fall into the IB Boundary pertaining to Westdale. Find out more about the IB program here.

Out of Catchment Education

‘Out of Catchment’ attendance is an option as well. This means that you choose to enroll your child in a school other than one in your attendance boundary. This can be for reasons of preference, convenience or programs offered, as long as the rationale for the request is stated to the receiving school via this Request Form. Note that not all schools accept out of catchment students due to availability and space. You can see the list of schools in the HWDSB open to out of catchment students here. Be sure to inquire about transportation options when as well, as transportation may not be provided.
