In heart of Niagara is the charming City of Thorold – a community rich in history and brimming with culture and activity all within short access to the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Beautiful historical sites, nature trails, parks and playgrounds means Thorold has something for everyone, and is quickly becoming an ideal location for growing families and those looking to experience life with a little more ease.

At the hub of it all, Thorold is only 5 minutes from St. Catherines, 10 minutes from Niagara Falls and 15 minutes from Welland, making day trips out of the city a breeze. And if you’re looking to head south of the border, New York State is only 30 minutes away making family vacations to the Big Apple all the easier.

We’d like to welcome you to Thorold and its great mix of local amenities that make it an enjoyable and convenient place to call home.

There’s No Place Like Home

Thorold is home to a newly revitalized downtown, making it a great place to shop and stroll on a Sunday morning. Downtown Thorold offers an array of fashion boutiques, jewellery stores and professional services that maintain the area’s old town charm while breathing in new life and character into the community. Check out one of our favourite places to visit — the Shannon Passero The Post Office.

Get Outdoors

With a bronze designation from the Share the Road Cycling Coalition, Throlod is a bike-friendly community with trails through tree-lined streets and off-road paths. Thorold’s Historic Downtown is also welcoming to cyclists with plenty of cycling-friendly accommodations, restaurants and cafes that have several bicycle racks for your parking convenience.

If you’d rather explore on two feet instead of two wheels, Short Hills is a favourite pursuit among residents with its 735-hectares of park space, making it the largest in the Niagara Region. With seven different trails to choose from, Short Hills provides stunning scenery of the Niagara Escarpment along picturesque peaks and valleys, making these pathways a hiker’s paradise.

Park Yourself at the Drive-In

Seven minutes from the Empire Legacy and Empire Calderwood communities is one of the last remaining drive-ins in southern Ontario — the CanView Drive-In. Stay for the double feature and enjoy your popcorn under the stars.

Explore the Ale Trail

The Niagara Region has long been known for its distinguishable wineries, but what you may not know is that it is home to a wide variety of craft breweries. The Niagara Ale Trail offers an unexpected way to explore the Niagara region outside of Throlod, while sipping on some local beer.
